Letter to Charles Mercer Hall, 1896

Signed note from William Boyd Allison dated March 24, 1896, addressed to Charles Mercer Hall (Church of the Holy Cross, NY) on verso of Mercer's inquiry about Allison's entry into public office. Allison's response: "...I entered public life on the 4th March, 1863 when my first term in the House of Representatives began." Charles Hall was a noted clergyman and collector of autographs.
